What is Pubic Lift?
Pubic lift, also known as monsplasty, is a surgical operation that removes the hanging skin and fatty tissue from the mons pubis- the triangular area between the top of pubic hair down to where the genitals begin. By removing the excess skin from this area, it is possible to give the pubic area a more pleasing, youthful look, allowing the patient to regain self-confidence, and once again wear tight clothing without having to worry about unattractive bulges in the area.
Although they are different procedures, monsplasty can be done together with liposuction. It is worth knowing that a liposuction and/or abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) do not lift your pubic area. What Happens During a Pubis Lift?
Pubic lift is performed under general anesthesia- in some cases, the doctors opt for local anesthesia and an oral sedative.
Once the patient is asleep or sedated, the surgeon will make a horizontal incision across the patient’s mons pubis, using a scalpel. Then, he or she will cut off excess fatty tissue and skin, and use internal sutures to tighten and shape the muscles and other tissues. After that, the surgeon may place small silicone tubes in the patient’s mons pubis to drain any blood or fluid. Then tubes are stitched into place, and the incision will be closed with a stitch.
Who Can Get a Pubic Lift?
Generally speaking, you can be considered a good candidate for this operation, if you;
- Happen to have some extra tissue or skin hanging from your pubic area; causing rashes and/or infections, and making it harder to clean the area,
- Are usually having a hard time urinating or having sex because of a large mons pubis,
- Don’t have diabetes, lung disease, or heart disease,
- Don’t have a condition that affects the healing ability of your body,
- Don’t smoke- and if you do, you should be willing to quit starting from two weeks before the operation, up until two weeks after the operation.
