Dimpleplasty

The way we smile has an important effect on people, and the way they see us- it is especially important when it comes to first impressions. While healthy & good-looking teeth are essential for a charming smile, having a dimple -or two- gives one a unique and warm look, that is no doubt eye-catchy. While some people have natural dimples, some do not. Today, thanks to the advancements in medical science, you can easily get dimples for the smile you desire, through a procedure that is known as dimpleplasty.

If you wish to know more about this operation, continue reading! Here’s all you need to know about dimpleplasty!

What is Dimpleplasty?

Dimpleplasty, also known as dimple creation surgery, is basically a type of surgical procedure that aims to create dimples on the patients’ cheeks. A relatively simple operation, dimpleplasty is performed under local anesthesia, and usually takes around 30 minutes. The procedure basically involves creating adhesion between the cheek muscles and skin. During smiling, the muscle contracts, which leads to an indentation on the skin. After the patient heals, the scar tissue connects the skin and the muscle underneath, creating an indentation as the muscle moves.

The results of the dimple creation surgery are intended to be permanent for the patient. But it should be noted that healing is variable.

Who Can Get a Dimpleplasty?

Generally speaking, any adult who wishes to have dimples on their cheeks can be a good candidate for dimple creation surgery. But, you should always speak to a surgeon first so he/she can confirm that you are a good candidate for this surgical operation. Those who have infections in and/or around their mouth, and those with diabetes, or blood clotting diseases are usually not considered good candidates for dimpleplasty. Also, if you are a smoker, you should be willing to quit smoking for the time around your dimple creation surgery.

Dimpleplasty Recovery Process

After the dimple creation surgery -which takes about half an hour as we have said above- the patient can return to his/her daily life immediately, and start going to work the very next day. Once the dimpleplasty is over, some mild soreness usually occurs at the site of the operation. For the first few days after the operation, the patient can take prescription pain medications. There will be sutures, but a removal procedure will not be necessary, as they will be dissolvable.
