Embryo Donation
Negative effects such as living conditions, consumption habits, eating unhealthy, processed foods, stressful life, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, chemicals and exposure to radiation -as well as genetics- can cause unhealthy functioning of the body system and serious problems in reproductive health. When couples cannot have children naturally for various reasons, they start looking for alternative methods. Embryo donation and transfer is one of them.
What is Embryo Donation?
A method of assisted reproduction called Embryo Donation involves the transfer of embryos from different male and female genetic backgrounds. When both partners are unable to conceive naturally using their own oocytes and spermatozoa, this procedure is used.
In order to receive embryo donation treatment, all health tests of the expectant mother are checked and her suitability for pregnancy is tested. Embryo donation treatment is often preferred if the woman's ovarian reserve is very low, and if the man has azoospermic conditions (absence of sperm or bad sperm count and quality in fertile numbers).
Egg donors are generally selected from healthy people between the ages of 20-29; donors who have given birth to healthy children before are preferred.
When choosing a donor for egg donation treatment, the physical characteristics of the patient such as skin color, eye color, hair color, and body structure are selected to be as similar as possible to the recipient couple.
In sperm donation, healthy and high-quality samples with very high fertilization ability and very good standards in terms of number, motility, and morphology are used.
How is Embryo Transfer Done?
The patient must have a full bladder in order to help the ultrasonography process to see the uterus. The process of embryo transfer starts with the insertion of a speculum into the vagina to see the cervix. After that, physiological serum is used to clean the cervix. The embryos are left where they will be implanted in the uterus after the catheter containing them is moved through the uterine canal. The remaining embryos in the catheter are checked by the embryologist after the catheter is removed. Ultrasonography is typically used to control proper positioning. Typically, these treatments don't require anesthesia. After implantation, the patient should spend the next two hours lying on their back.
However, it was noted that there wasn't much of a difference between bed rest and resuming normal activity. Some medical professionals advise 24 hours of rest, while others might advise going back to your regular routine. These suggestions could change based on your physical and mental health as well. Additionally, it must be remembered that the genetic factors of the eggs is a crucial element in determining pregnancy. Only embryos with flawless genetics are permitted to survive by nature.
